SYC x Jean Hall : Hackney

SYC x Jean Hall

10.00 - 6.00 pm

Secret Studio, Hackney

SYC is absolutely delighted to welcome the brilliant Jean Hall back for our very first day retreat, an intimate gathering in real life to nourish and nurture in joy.

Fresh into the freedom of Spring, a day to drink deep in presence, connection and freedom to move, breathe, converse, eat and and commune together.

Movement is the language of the body, and Jean is a poet. All of Jean's offerings are  deeply original and nuanced. Weaving her dance and somatic background with the most profound asana practises and a thirst to integrate new learnings on anatomy and physiology, you always experience your body anew through Jean’s teachings.

The demands of modern life are often restrictive on our movement and increasingly on our freedom. Stasis and stress causes us to lose intimacy with ourselves, and the current restrictions can make us feel caged or frustrated.

Here you will find practises to awaken and liberate, kindling light and spring into our bones.

Movement is a beautiful way to remember the magic, the freedom and the power of alchemy within our bodies. As soon as we shift how we experience ourselves physically, the world around us seems to instantly brighten.

In this retreat, Jean will be exploring primary movement patterns, sourcing movement from within, inviting the body to shift through space organically, rather than micromanaging the movements and enforcing from an external concept.

This grace and remembrance opens us to a whole range of movement and motion that we often can’t access and perhaps, will create other openings.

You will be provided with welcome teas, treats and a nourishing, seasonal vegetarian lunch, cooked with love.

About Jean

Jean’s teaching is rooted in her enjoyment of assisting bodies and minds to open up to their strength, freedom and potential. As a lifelong lover of movement and creativity Jean has spent much of her life exploring body work disciplines, travelling and practicing yoga.

Having discovered yoga whilst training as a dancer it soon became an integral part of her life, developing alongside her career as a performer and also her own personal learning and exploration.

In 1995 she qualified as a Iyengar yoga teacher and since then she has continued to study different forms of yoga with many great teachers from many diverse backgrounds including Geeta Iyengar and Sri K Pattahbi Jois, as well as being self taught and working with more unconventional teachers such as Gill Clarke and Paddy McGrath.

Jean teaches a deep and soulful slow flow form of yoga. She is known for her unique creative sequencing of postures which helps to draw students and teachers beyond limitations and closer to their true potential and confidence through the ancient yogic system of asanas, mindful breathing and meditation with an approach of devotion and playfulness.

She is one of the U.K’s leading yoga teachers as well as senior faculty member of the triyoga teaching training programme and author of published yoga books:

Yoga, a practical guide to yoga postures – Abbeydale Press

Ashtanga Yoga, a in-depth guide to the primary series – Anness Books

Breathe – simple techniques for a calmer, happier life – Quadrille Publishing
